Recently, the Philippines has been battered by super typhoon Odette (Rai). The first place where Odette unleashed and made known its superpowers of destruction was in the CARAGA area where Surigao del Norte is situated.
Nobody can ever be prepared for what is to come on that fateful afternoon of December 16, 2021. How can you escape the sustained winds of 165/km and gustiness of 205/km? You can only embrace yourself and pray for God's protection for super typhoons like this.
The devastation was great. Loss of lives is still being accounted for and the lives of those who survived will never be the same again.
As of this moment people in my home province Surigao del Norte are in the midst of chaos, grief, and misery. There is no power, no drinkable water, no internet signals, trees, and homes were toppled down and communication is limited to non-existence.
There is uncertainty as to when everything will be restored. The coming Christmas will be celebrated with a different meaning for Surigaonons. Life will be met with resilience, strength, and renewed faith in God.
