Dear friends, family, and compassionate souls, I hope this post finds you well. Today, I am reaching out to share a deeply personal and challenging chapter in our lives. My beloved Mama, Mama Jelma, is currently in the Perpetual Help Medical Center-Las Piñas, fighting a brave battle against her Guillain-Barré syndrome- AMSAN variant. Last Nov 10, 2023, she was rushed to the ER due to her chief complaint of dizziness. Prior to that, she wasn't able to walk, stand up straight, and she wasn't able to fully open her left eye. She did undergo a series of tests; MRI, CT SCAN, Urinalysis etc. As per the doctor, they thought it was vertigo. She was given meds for her dizziness. The doctors also check if my Mom can raise her arms and legs. She was also referred to a neurologist that soon diagnosed her with Guillain Barre Syndrome-Miller Fisher, then they found out it was Acute Motor and Sensory Axonal Neuropathy (AMSAN variant). Due to her condition, she is now bedridden, unable to feel anything, unable to touch or hold anything, or even lift her arms and legs. Since her condition is getting worse, she was moved to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) last Nov 13. She was also intubated and hooked on a mechanical ventilator since she had difficulty breathing and her UTI got worse. Prior to that, we're advised that they will administer IVIG to boost her immunity to fight infections and also slow the GBS symptoms. As per the doctor, GBS is an autoimmune disease. It is a rare disorder in which your body's immune system attacks your nerves. Weakness and tingling in your hands and feet are usually the first symptoms. After those 5 days of getting IVIG, her sensorium is still the same, unable to walk, unable to open both her eyes, but I have noticed that she can move her feet and her shoulders. Since my Mama needs to be hooked on the ventilator for prolonged use, I was advised that she needs to undergo tracheostomy (bubutasan sa leeg), so that she can breathe better and avoid any other complications in the lungs. But since I am doubtful about the procedure, I refused, but after discussing the risk and benefits, I gave my consent and her schedule was set to be Nov 25, 8pm. Unfortunately, in the early morning she did have episodes of seizures. They did run a series of tests again, like CT scans, to find out the root cause. She was given anti-seizure meds, and she was observed for 1 week if she would have seizures again. Luckily, no episodes of seizures were observed. They also check for possible blood clots in her lungs since lagi siya nakahiga, prone daw talaga as per the doctor. Fortunately, no blood clot was found, but she does have pneumonia due to the ventilator. She was given strong antibiotics for her pneumonia and UTI, and it is now being corrected. Throughout it all, Mama has displayed incredible strength, resilience, and an unwavering spirit that inspires me every day. Tomorrow (Dec 5), My Mama will undergo Tracheostomy surgery. We encourage everyone to please continue the prayers for our mama and hopefully no more complications will arise after this. We are also planning to move her to the charity foundation of the Hospital, which is Jonelta, but I was advised to close the bill before they transfer the patient. I was able to get a guarantee letter from DSWD, all of our resources were already exhausted. I still continue to work every night (BPO) and try to sell food on the site, but still it is not enough. I also tried to reach out to the other government agencies that will help us. As we navigate this difficult path, we find ourselves facing not only the emotional toll but also the significant financial burden associated with the extensive medical treatments, surgeries, and ongoing care. It is with a humble heart that I reach out to you, our cherished community, seeking your support through this campaign. The funds raised will go directly towards Mama's mounting medical bills, continued treatment, and the rehabilitation she will need to embark on the road to recovery. Your contributions, regardless of the amount, will make a meaningful difference in her journey towards healing. For those who know Mama Jelma, you are aware of her boundless love, generosity, and the positive impact she has had on the lives of those around her. For those who may not be acquainted with her personally, I invite you to join us in making a difference in the life of an extraordinary woman who needs our collective help. Please share this campaign with your networks, friends, and colleagues. Your generosity will not only alleviate the financial strain on our family but will also provide Mama Jelma with the peace of mind to focus on her recovery. Your prayers, thoughts, and contributions are deeply appreciated during this challenging time. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for standing with us as we rally around Mama on her journey to wellness. You may send your in kind donation through my Gcash account or BPI account.
