I am reaching out to you during a challenging time for our family, as we navigate my father, Celso Vergabera's, health crisis. My father's medical journey commenced back in January 2007 when he suffered a stroke, resulting in half-body paralysis, affecting the right side of his body. Despite undergoing physical therapy, he never fully regained his former abilities. Over the years, he has bravely adjusted to living with his disability while diligently adhering to his maintenance medication regimen. Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, my father's health has taken a downward turn. In April 2021, his Creatinine levels rose above the normal range, indicating renal issues. Subsequently, his nephrologist advised us to prepare for kidney dialysis and to have a fistula placed. However, shortly after the procedure, he contracted shingles, leading to a week-long hospitalization in May 2023 due to severe pain. Since then, his Creatinine levels have continued to escalate, requiring monthly laboratory tests to monitor his condition. This month, February 2024, his Creatinine level has reached 12.82, necessitating immediate hemodialysis. As a family living from paycheck to paycheck, the financial burden of hemodialysis is daunting. While we are grateful for the assistance provided by PhilHealth, covering the dialysis sessions themselves, the cost of post-session medications amounts to approximately ₱20,000 per week.
