Two months. That was the time it took from me feeling a lump on my right breast to immediately undergoing modified radical mastectomy (MRM) after being diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma or simply put - BREAST CANCER.
Following my surgery, my oncologist shared that although cancerous masses were already removed, I was positive for lymphovascular invasion. In cancer talk, that means the cancer cells may spread and cause distant metastases, but hopefully, we can remove them completely before that happens.
The only game plan is to decrease/eliminate metastasis. To do this, I am encouraged to undergo the following treatment:
*8 cycles of chemotherapy and thereafter, possibly
*25 cycles of radiation therapy (subject to radiation oncologist's recommendation)
*5 to 10 years of hormonal therapy (oral intake daily)
Along with these, I have been told to expect series after series of lab tests, check ups and scans every three weeks.
I was also given the option to either have monthly/quarterly hormone injections for my ovaries or to have my ovaries and my left breast removed completely to reduce the risk of cancer recurrence. While this is subject to BRCA gene testing, the multiple history of breast cancer occurence in my family puts me at a higher risk.
My treatment journey began 1st of August and will continue for another eight months and beyond. These treatments come with increasing medical expenses. My personal insurances have already been exhausted and I am in the process of applying for local government financial assistance (PCSO, PAGCOR, local municipality, etc).
As some of you are aware, I am a single parent to three wonderful children - Joaquin, Adriana and Alessandra. With me being in recovery and receiving treatments, I am unable to work - bringing me added financial anxiety as the sole provider for my kids.
The journey has been hard and painful, but knowing that there is tomorrow promised to me brings great hope that my little family and I will be okay.
I am humbly requesting for your generous support to help me ensure that my recovery continues to be on the right path. If you have any funds to spare, I hope you will be able to extend it towards my journey to fighting this cancer.
Otherwise, I hope I can trouble you to share my story with your friends and family who might be able to help me, too.
