In a small town nestled within the beautiful landscapes of the Philippines, there lived a woman named Nancy Watts Esquivias. Today, she celebrated her 44th birthday, marking 37 years since she last saw her American father. Nancy and her brother had endured a heartbreaking story ever since their father left them. They were known as Amerisian children, born to an Asian mother and an American father, their existence was considered illegitimate.
Nancy's mother, unaware of all the details about their father, had been unable to provide them with much information. All they knew was that their father had been an ex-US Air Force serviceman stationed in the Philippines during the 1970s and 1980s. With such a limited understanding of their father's involvement in their lives, Nancy and her brother were left to face the hardships that lay ahead.
Life had been incredibly challenging for them. Nancy's brother had only completed grade 3 before becoming a child laborer to help put food on the table. Nancy, with the assistance of the Pearl S. Buck Foundation, had managed to finish a vocational course. However, her dream of obtaining a college degree remained unfulfilled due to the financial burdens they faced. Every day was a struggle, but Nancy found solace and strength in her faith in God, as well as the love and support of her husband and children.
Unfortunately, Nancy's brother continued to face his own battles. He still worked as a laborer, without a wife or children, and had turned to drinking and smoking as a means to cope. It was a path that seemed inevitable considering the difficult circumstances they had both faced throughout their lives. Their mother, who was still around, showed no care or concern for them unless they provided her with money to support herself.
In the midst of their challenging lives, Nancy held onto hope. She believed that there were kind-hearted and generous individuals who could help her fulfill her dreams for her family and, especially, for her brother. Her ultimate goal was to provide a good, stable home for her family, as they currently lived in a rented house that strained their finances.
With a plea from the depths of her heart, Nancy knocked on the doors of kind souls, hoping that their story, their struggle, would touch someone's heart. She yearned for their simple dream to come true, knowing that it would bring stability and happiness to their lives.
And so, Nancy concluded her plea with gratitude and blessings, thanking anyone who would listen for their time and consideration. She hoped that her family's story would resonate with someone who possessed the means and willingness to offer them a helping hand.
The future remained uncertain for Nancy, her brother, and their aspirations. But they clung to hope, knowing that in the vastness of the world, there were still compassionate individuals who could make a difference in their lives.
This is our story and our my hope.
Yours truly,
Nancy Watts Esquivias
