My name is Donna Lopez, most of the people who know me simply call me “Mommy.” I have steadfastly raised my now adult children on my own and is currently enjoying being a doting grandmother to my 2 young grandsons. I have spent most of my career as a well-loved trainer in Convergys, at the Commonwealth, MDC, and UPSCI sites. I have been doing VA work since then.
I have been diagnosed with colorectal metastatic cancer 30th of April 2021. The doctor found a mass blocking my colon. Biopsy was ordered and the results revealed that I have colorectal cancer which has metastasized to my liver causing two (2) bigger liver masses.
I am midway through my 8 chemo cycles, repeat CT scan showed positive response as my liver masses shrunk to 32% down. Plan will push through, complete the 8 chemo cycles, and oral chemo as needed until the liver masses shrink down to less than 9cm in total for a possible resection. After which, radiation is in place to hopefully take out any remaining cancer cells.
Having cancer is not only emotionally draining, it is also financially challenging. I need to go through the following procedures: surgery for colostomy (done), chemotherapy, and eventually, radiation therapy. After reassessing my condition and the sizes of the masses and if given the go signal, I will need a second surgery for colon and liver resection and further chemotherapy. My journey to recovery will be long and hard and we want to be prepared so I can focus on building up my strength and push on to the next step of the treatment plan.
My family and I know that this is not the easiest time to raise funds as we all are going through our own battles. But we also know that there are people out there who are always willing to lend a helping hand. You can also help by sharing this post just so we can reach the widest audience possible.
I ask for your help in my battle against cancer!
#Update
Done with 3/8 chemo cycle, currently preparing for 4/8 cycle on the 11th.
Chemo is wearing down my body. Appetite loss is no joke, however, I need to eat to basically drink meds and not feel weary and tired all the time. Cramping is due to lack of magnesium or potassium, my cousin told me I need electrolytes - gatorade, pedialyte or magnesium supplements help. They do!!! Fatigue is the worst at this time. I always feel tired.
With all those side effects, I still feel blessed and lucky. This thought and the support and help of people from all walks of life fuel my desire to even do better...be better in making sure I win this battle of mine. AND I WILL! :)
Thank you for the support and prayers from you all! I wish and pray that all of you may be blessed a hundredfold!
